With a combination of music, dance, and gymnastics, this street performer and the rest of his team gathered the crowds…including some very young ones in carriages.

Winter Inuksuk

Spotted these Inuksuits (Plural for Inuksuk) along a mountain valley creek bed. I think it makes for an appropriate wintery scene to start the year off.   

Icy Clumps

On a blue-sky and calm winter day, icy clumps of frost (to numerous to count) appear as clouds on the frozen lake.

Joe is a Fire Lookout person. He and his wife Dale have been making Fire Lookouts their office and home during summers since the 1970s! Fire Lookout people like Joe and Dale serve a key role in the protection of life, property, and natural resources.

Icey Cave

This cave was an incredible privilege to experience as it is inaccessible. The walls are at permafrost-tempuratures from the last ice-age. Comments welcome.

Engineered towers like this can be 180+ feet tall. These agile climbers/techs were on a well-deserved break when they spotted me looking up at them. Comments welcome.  

Mom!

It was fun to watch the interaction between this mother Grizzly and her cub. A male of the species wandered too close and there was quite a commotion! Comments welcome. 

Snowshoe Hare-Bunny

 

This little guy decided he would do a Lindt chocolate bunny pose for me. Unlike rabbits, hares are born with fur and eyes open so they are developed early-on for survival in the wild. Comments welcome.  

Near and Far

A few of us friends were out and about one evening and happened on this sunset scene with distant rocky mountains. We donated a lot of blood to the mosquitoes. :o Comments welcome.

Hoary Marmot

This Hoary Marmot decided to hang out on his burrow for us. Some people call them Whistle Pigs as their call is ear deafening up close. Biggest north American Ground Squirrel and they grow up to 10kg. These guys were skittish, as there are Grizzlies around. Comments welcome.

Ironman Calgary-2010

Emanuela B. just-crossing the finish line at the Calgary Ironman 70.3 mile race this Sunday. Her exhuberance says it all. Racers “gave-their-all” and did a fantastic job! Comments welcome.

Layers

Male Red-Wing

 

This male Red-Wing has his grasping technique mastered. Melanin produces the black, which fosters feather durability, and carotenoids produce the yellowish to bright red colors. Comments welcome.

Great Blue Heron

I grew-up in a north-central town in Alberta, Canada. The Great Blue Heron was and remains the town motto. Fantastic bird, and their annual migration ranges from northern parts of Canada to Mexico and the Caribbean. Comments Welcome.

Grazing Grizzly

Buddy John and I were out hiking one morning and came across this fellow. Got the heart pumping as we were on foot. Boar Grizzly, and at around 350+ lbs he will be bulking-up over the rest of the summer. Comments welcome.

Salamander!
