Biker Wave

A large insurgence of Harley riders came to Calgary recently. This biker acknowledged me taking his photo, and I like to think he meant it in the nicest possible way. :)

Yellow and Yellow

This crop-spray pilot was working  to keep this crop of flowering Canola as yellow as possible. Comments welcome.

Warthog

The US military brought this A10 Warthog close-strike aircraft to the Lethbridge Airshow in late July. The pilot gave and excellent performance, and interesting to take note of the computer-assisted control surface positions. Comments welcome.

Mom!

It was fun to watch the interaction between this mother Grizzly and her cub. A male of the species wandered too close and there was quite a commotion! Comments welcome.

Snowshoe Hare-Bunny

This little guy decided he would do a Lindt chocolate bunny pose for me. Unlike rabbits, hares are born with fur and eyes open so they are developed early-on for survival in the wild. Comments welcome.

Saddle Bronc

“Showboy” was aptly named and is an excellent Saddle Bronc. Frank C. showed his true grit as a cowboy on this ride. His calm/cool words to me were, ”I heard it (collarbone) snap”. He will be back on the rodeo circuit next year! Comments welcome.

Princess

In the crowd and bustle of the festivities, this girl looked back as her mother took her arm. After providing a few seconds of verbal guidance, the mother was content and let her go. Comments welcome.

Near and Far

A few of us friends were out and about one evening and happened on this sunset scene with distant rocky mountains. We donated a lot of blood to the mosquitoes. :o Comments welcome.

Hoary Marmot

This Hoary Marmot decided to hang out on his burrow for us. Some people call them Whistle Pigs as their call is ear deafening up close. Biggest north American Ground Squirrel and they grow up to 10kg. These guys were skittish, as there are Grizzlies around. Comments welcome.

Ironman Calgary-2010

Emanuela B. just-crossing the finish line at the Calgary Ironman 70.3 mile race this Sunday. Her exhuberance says it all. Racers “gave-their-all” and did a fantastic job! Comments welcome.

Grizzly Creek

There are approximately 700 Grizzly Bears in Alberta. This summer I have been fortunate to view a few of the population. Comments welcome.

1929 Relived

This is Heritage Park in Calgary a few weeks ago. Comments welcome.

Canadian Air Force Skyhawks

Canadian Air Force (CAF) Skyhawks are an awesome team supporting and protecting our Nation. Comments welcome.

Eastern Kingbird

This Eastern Kingbird decided to hang out for me along the Bow River. I like their typical ruffed-up crown feathers. They have a relatively large range from South and… Read the rest of this entry »

Swainsons Hawk – Nature, Canada

This male Swainsons Hawk was “putting on the brakes” for landing. All birds of prey are very fascinating. Comments welcome.

Layers

It was a bit of a surreal feel looking across depth of field of this scene. During certain times of the year I do a fair amount of flying, but I find that there are considerably more landscape photo opportunities from the ground.  Comments welcome.

Wristwatch Macro

This is a typical Tag Heuer wristwatch close-up. I find it interesting to examine the macro-photography details of engineering after such a shot. Comments welcome.

Great Grey Owl-Perch

This female Great Grey Owl decided to take a break, as her mate continued hunting over a nearby grassy meadow. Comments welcome.

Rascals

Their look was like they had just been caught being mischievous. :) Twin brothers in Kananaskis Country.  Comments welcome.

Male Red-Wing

This male Red-Wing has his grasping technique mastered. Melanin produces the black, which fosters feather durability, and carotenoids produce the yellowish to bright red colors. Comments welcome.

Armour vs. Might

I found these guys in my front yard the other day. I grabbed the 100mm macro lens as they were so tiny and could easily sit together on a 5 cent piece. The outcome of this encounter was less dramatic… Read the rest of this entry »

FIFA = Future Energy

Almost everyone we know is pumped with the fine sportsmanship and fervor of World Cup Football! Up-and-coming energetic athletes give their all. Comments  Welcome.

Freedom

Today is July 1st and Canada Day! In 1867 Canada became an independant Nation with continuous close ties to the Commonwealth. I thought a good word to sum up Canada Day is “Freedom”, and I think Chad R. on his Harley expresses that. Comments Welcome.

Great Blue Heron

I grew-up in a north-central town in Alberta, Canada. The Great Blue Heron was and remains the town motto. Fantastic bird, and their annual migration ranges from northern parts of Canada to Mexico and the Caribbean. Comments Welcome.

Grazing Grizzly

Buddy John and I were out hiking one morning and came across this fellow. Got the heart pumping as we were on foot. Boar Grizzly, and at around 350+ lbs he will be bulking-up over the rest of the summer. Comments welcome.

Broken Bulb

This was a fun little challenge for me. I enjoy tinkering and decided that I needed to make this happen. I do not enjoy shopping, but hung out in my Grocer’s refrigerator isle reckoning between a white egg in my left hand, and brown egg in my right. You know the rest of the story. :) Comments welcome.

Tender Moment

This is another cutey-shot from my baby series in Portraits / Still Life. Having this opportunity struck really deep inside me. We had nice warm sunlight illumination, for a natural light setting. Comments welcome.

Great Grey Owl-Talons

This Great Grey Owl was hunting mice/voles in a meadow near the mountains. In this attempt, he did not get his prey. Comments welcome.

Female Red-Wing

From a distance, the male Red-Wings are more striking, however once zoomed-in, I personally feel that the female is nicer looking bird.  There is a mutually benefical relationship between Red-Wings and Cattails… Read the rest of this entry »

Husky Tower

Sunny days just feel great to head out with no photo objectives in mind. Not sure what happened to this gentleman’s finger, but he seems well-on-the-mend and obliged the Calgary Tower as backdrop. Nikkor 10.5mm Fish-eye. Comments welcome.

“Stevie Wonder Cab!”

Sometimes motoring along, we catch something out of the corner of our eye. I parked and happily hiked back over/under the trains and tracks to find this rail-car. Truly impressive spray paint art! Recognizing… Read the rest of this entry »

North/ Central/ South America Adventure!

Greg is a buddy I used to work with. He is in the midst of a fantastic adventure traveling through North, Central, and South America by Motorcycle. He prepped for a 50,000 km round trip. Link… Read the rest of this entry »

Mallard Colors

Sometimes it’s easy to pass by these incredible ducks without a thought, just because they are common. As they mature, their tails point up more, so this drake has a few more good years left. :) Comments welcome.

Salamander!

This tiny little guy is a juvenile Long-Toed Salamander. He was only about 4.3 cm long. What an amazing treat it was to come across him, as they are rarely seen. As they grow and mature, they lose the yellow stripe/spots… Read the rest of this entry »

Lime and Tonic

Went for a haircut today to my Barber. Leah and I were chatting about macro photography. So thought I would post a bright and bubbly photo given that our local weather is pretty drab… Read the rest of this entry »

Olympic Winter Blues

Wow. Calgary is getting some major “Spring-Time” snowfall! This pumps us up for next Snowboard season. I captured this a couple months ago just in case you are wondering. :)  Comments welcome!

Rocky Mountain Cabin

This is a great little cabin tucked in the foothills with a backdrop of the Rockies. No roads lead directly up to the cabin. Comments welcome!
